Migrate custom report layouts to report layouts in Business Central

Important

Perform this migration only if you are on version 27.2 or higher of Business Central.

Custom report layouts are no longer supported and have been replaced by report layouts. Follow this guide to migrate your custom report layouts to the new report layout system.

Prerequisites

  • Business Central version 27.2 or higher
  • Access to report layout management features

Overview

Business Central now uses report layouts instead of custom report layouts. For more information, see:

Migration steps

  1. Identify reports to migrate

    • Select all reports that need to be migrated from custom report layouts to report layouts.
  2. Migrate to system layouts

    • Use the action Migrate to System Layouts to convert custom report layouts to report layouts.
    • The custom report layouts are now added as report layouts, including filters.
  3. Verify migration

    • Check the list of report layouts to confirm that the reports have been migrated.
    • Filter the list by User Defined = Yes to find migrated layouts.
  4. Export custom report layouts (optional)

    • Export any custom report layouts you wish to keep for backup or reference.
  5. Remove custom report layouts

    • Delete the custom report layouts after migration is complete.
  6. Update report layout selection

    • In Report Layout Selection, ensure the layout type is no longer set to custom layout.
  7. Print reports using report layouts

    • When printing reports, the new report layouts will be used automatically.

Notes and troubleshooting

  • Starting with version 27, modifying custom report layouts may result in an error:

    The following issue has been found in the layout ... for report ID ...:
    ...[(None)] UpgradeErrors: : Root element is missing.
    
  • Always migrate to report layouts before making changes to layouts in version 27 or higher.
