Area and Region management

Area

General

Areas play a crucial role in managing logistics operations. An area represents a combination of a loading region and an unloading region, which helps define the scope of transportation activities. In the forwarding app, areas are used in Contracts.

Functionality

Based on the Area type speficied in the Loading (more generic: From) and Unloading (more genric: To) fields, the system automatically calculate a priority. The priority is visible on the Area list page and is used to sort and find the first 'valid' area with the scope of a contract.

Priority calculation
The priority consists of 4 digits. The first 2 digits are for the loading and the last 2 digits are for unloading.

To create a new area

  1. Choose the Lightbulb that opens the Tell Me feature. icon that opens the Tell Me feature, enter Area, and then choose the related link.

  2. Specify the Code and Description fields for the area. In the Area Subform two records will be automatically created, that can be used to specify the Loading and Unloading region.

  3. On the Area Subform FastTab, on the first record for Loading, in the Type field select what type of region to apply.

    On the Code field select one of the available options, or Choose New to create a new record in the related table.

    You leave the Code field empty if Type Other is specified.

Region

Functionality

Regions can be used in Areas to specify a region (set) of Addresses, Post Codes, Cities, Counties, Countries or Ports.

To create a new region

  1. Choose the Lightbulb that opens the Tell Me feature. icon that opens the Tell Me feature, enter Region, and then choose the related link.

    Tip

    Typically Regions are created from the Area. From the Area Line, if you can not find the region in the field lookup, choose the New action in the dropdown.

  2. Specify the Code and Description and Type fields for the region. In the Region Subform FastTab, you can now specify the applicable fields.

    For example when you set up a Postcode region, fill the Post Code From and Post Code To fields.

Note

Once the lines are inserted is not possible to change the region type without deleting them.

Warning

Think carefully when changing an existing Area or Region, as the areas might be used in existing contracts.
