WMS Carrier renamed

From 2023-09-01 we have renamed the WMS Carrier entity to Handling Unit.

Note

You will only notice this change if your language is set to English or no translations are present.

Tip

For now you can still search with the word Carrier. Search results will show Handling Unit

This means that the field caption displays Handling Unit instead of Carrier.

For example:

Previous Caption Current Caption
Carrier No. Handling Unit No.
Carrier Content Handling Unit Content
Carrier Type Handling Unit Type

Why did we make the change

Previously, we also used the term carrier to specify the handling unit. This causes confusion for international and/or English-speaking users.

Because in the context of logistics and transportation, a "carrier" refers to a company or entity that provides transportation services for the movement of goods from one location to another.

  • The system automatically updates related information
  • The handling unit's behavior in warehouse operations may change
  • Certain operations may become available or unavailable

How does it affect your business?

Changing the handling unit usage can impact:

  • Which warehouse operations can use this handling unit
  • How the handling unit is processed in different workflows
  • How the handling unit appears in reports and statistics
  • How the handling unit interacts with other warehouse processes
Tip

Choose the appropriate handling unit usage based on your specific operational needs to ensure optimal warehouse management.

Available Usage Types

The following usage types are available for handling units:

Usage Type Description
" " (empty) Default handling unit type used for standard warehouse operations
Orderpick Handling unit specifically designated for order picking processes
Mixed HU Handling unit that can contain multiple items or batches

Default Handling Unit

When no specific usage type is selected (empty value), the handling unit functions as a standard container for warehouse operations. This is the most common type used for general storage and movement of goods.

Orderpick

Handling units with the "Orderpick" usage type are specifically designed for the order picking process. These handling units are optimized for collecting items during the picking process and may have special rules or behaviors in the system.

Mixed HU

The "Mixed HU" usage type allows a handling unit to contain multiple different items or batches. This is particularly useful for consolidating various products into a single handling unit, often used in picking or shipping operations where different items need to be grouped together.
