How to create Cycle Counting Task(s)

There are several ways to create a cycle count task:

  1. Scanner
  2. Job Queue
  3. Report

Scanner

You can use the following scan functions

  • Codeunit Scan Function Location 11155037, No. = 17
  • Codeunit Scan Function Location 11155037, No. = 25

Job Queue

You can configure the following job queue function:

  • Codeunit WMS Job Queue Functions 11154894, Function Code = CREATECYCLECOUNTING
  • Codeunit WMS Job Queue Functions 11154894, Function Code = CREATECYCLECOUNT-X

Report

Search for "Create Cycle Counting Tasks" using the "Tell me" window.

Set Reference Value

The request page of Create Cycle Counting Tasks contains the option Set Reference Value in the group Task Settings. Enter a free text of up to 30 characters and every cycle counting task that the report creates receives this text in its Reference No. field. This makes it possible to hand out counting work per group: give each run its own reference and let the warehouse staff pick up the tasks with their reference, instead of assigning every task to an individual user.

  • The reference is written to all tasks of the run: the tasks for locations with stock and, when Empty Locations is set to Create Task or Empty Only, also the tasks for empty locations.
  • Leave Set Reference Value empty to create tasks without a reference; the tasks are then created exactly as before.
  • When a task is posted, the reference is kept on the posted cycle counting task.
  • On the Cycle Counting Task List and the Posted Cycle Counting Task List the Reference No. column is hidden by default. Make it visible with Personalize to filter or sort the tasks by reference.
Note

The request page remembers the values of the previous run, including Set Reference Value. When the next run must create tasks without a reference, clear the field explicitly before you run the report.

Note

Only the report fills Reference No.. Tasks created by the scanner functions or the job queue functions do not get a reference.

Tips & Tricks

When finishing and posting a cycle count task and the carrier line no. is 0. The posting routine will try to find the last item ledger entry based on the following values:

  • Handling Unit No.
  • Location No.
  • Item No.
