WMS Trip

A WMS trip groups the shipments or receipts that are transported together, so the warehouse can load, unload and process them as one whole. Each document on a trip is linked through its Calculated Trip No.; the Trip Card shows all linked documents and the totals of the trip, such as the Load Meter.

Tip

When both WMS and TMS are in use, trips planned in TMS can be created in WMS automatically. See WMS & TMS Trip integration. This page describes the manual trip functions on the WMS document lists.

Trip functions on the Shipment List and Receipt List

On the Shipment List and the Receipt List page the trip functions are available under Functions > Trip Functions:

Action Purpose
Create Trip Creates a new trip and assigns the current document to it.
Select Trip Assigns the current document to an existing trip.
Create Trip from Selection Creates a new trip and adds all selected documents to it.
Add Selection to Trip Adds all selected documents to an existing trip that you choose.

The functions work the same on both lists: from the Shipment List they group shipments on an outbound trip, from the Receipt List they group receipts on an inbound trip.

Create Trip from Selection

  1. Open the Shipment List (or the Receipt List) and select the documents that belong on one trip.
  2. Choose Functions > Trip Functions > Create Trip from Selection.
  3. If one or more selected documents are already linked to another trip, the system asks: The selection contains x document(s) already linked to trip(s) y. Do you want to reassign these to a new trip? — see Reassign documents that are already on another trip.
  4. A new trip is created with one trip line per selected document, and the Trip Card of the new trip opens.

When none of the selected documents is on a trip yet, no question is asked.

Add Selection to Trip

  1. Select the documents on the Shipment List (or the Receipt List) and choose Functions > Trip Functions > Add Selection to Trip.
  2. Choose the target trip in the WMS Trip Overview that opens.
  3. If one or more selected documents are already linked to a different trip, the system asks: The selection contains x document(s) already linked to other trip(s) y. Do you want to move these to trip z? — see Reassign documents that are already on another trip.
  4. The documents are added as trip lines to the chosen trip and the Load Meter of that trip is recalculated. Documents that are already on the chosen trip are skipped without a message.

Reassign documents that are already on another trip

Both functions can move documents that are already on a trip, for example a temporary trip, to the new or chosen trip. This is what happens:

  • The question is asked once for the whole selection, before anything is changed. It shows the number of linked documents and the trip number(s) they are on. The default answer is No.
  • No cancels the whole action: no trip is created, no document is linked or moved — also the documents in the selection that were not on a trip stay as they are.
  • Yes unlinks each linked document from its old trip and links it to the new or chosen trip. The document lines follow the document to the new trip.
  • Only the selected documents leave the old trip. Documents that share the same trip line (for example after merging documents) but are not selected remain on the old trip. The old trip line is deleted only when no document refers to it any more.
  • The Load Meter of the old trip is recalculated.
Note

The question is only asked in an interactive session. When the function runs without a user interface, a document that is already on a trip stops the action with the error Document x is already assigned to trip y.
