Contract Journal

The Contract Journal lets you create, price, and maintain contracts through a journal instead of editing contract lines one by one. It's the same Contract Journal engine already used for FMS contracts, now also available for TMS contracts, so price changes, maintenance, and new contracts follow one consistent process across modules.

Overview

Use the Contract Journal to:

  • Propose and implement price changes on existing contract lines, with a future validity date, while keeping the historical price intact for orders already priced against it
  • Apply or adjust customer discounts on contracts that apply to all customers
  • Bulk-update contract fields such as quantity calculations, criteria functions, or table filters, without opening each contract individually
  • Create a new contract by copying an existing one through the journal

Set up the Contract Journal

The Contract Journal actions on the Contract card are only available when the contract uses Contract Detail Line Prices.

  1. Choose the Lightbulb that opens the Tell Me feature. icon, enter TMS Setup, and then choose the related link.
  2. On the tab General, in the Contract Strategy group, turn on Use Contract Detail Line Price.
Note

Use Contract Detail Line Price is turned on by default. If your contract lines don't yet have detail line prices, initialize them first — see Move a contract to Contract Detail Line Prices.

Use the Contract Journal from a contract

Open the contract, choose Functions, and then choose one of the following actions:

Action What it does
Adjust (Journal) Loads the contract's detail lines into a price change journal so you can propose new unit prices, base amounts, and minimum/maximum amounts with a future Valid From Date. Review the proposed lines, then implement them to close out the old price and start the new one from that date — the original price stays in place for anything already priced against it.
Adjust Discounts Loads the contract's rates into a journal so you can apply or change a Line Discount % per customer. Available only for contracts with Source Type set to All Customers, so you can create customer-specific discount exceptions on top of a general contract.
Maintenance Loads the contract's detail lines into a journal for bulk field changes — for example quantity calculations, criteria functions, or table filters — without changing prices.
Copy Contract via Journal Creates a new contract by copying the current one through the Contract Journal, instead of the direct Contract -> Contract copy action.

These actions are grouped together under Functions on the Contract card, next to the existing Adjust Prices action.

Each action opens a journal batch pre-filled with the contract's lines. Review and, where applicable, edit the proposed values, then use the journal's implement action (for example Implement Price Changes or Implement Lines) to apply the changes to the contract.

Note

The journal mechanics — batches, line status, and the implement step — work the same way as described for FMS Contract Journals. The difference for TMS is where you start from: the actions on the Contract card shown above, rather than a separate Contract Journal Templates search.
