Inventory Mutations Report (Excel)
3PL Dynamics can export every inventory mutation on handling unit level to an Excel file with the report Inventory mutations on HU-level (Excel). Use it when a customer wants a periodic (for example daily) overview of everything that changed in their stock: receipts, shipments, plus and minus postings from a physical inventory and changes to the content of a handling unit. The report reads the item ledger entries, so every posted mutation is included exactly as it was recorded.
Note
"Handling Unit" (HU) is the current name for what older captions and field names still call Carrier; this page uses handling unit throughout. See Handling Units.
Where to find the report
The report is part of the standard WMS report set:
- Report Center > Inventory opens the page Report Center - Inventory, where the report is listed in sub area Inventory. Select the line and choose Print to run it.
- Search (Tell Me) for Inventory mutations on HU-level (Excel).
- The WMS Reports catalogue lists the report with its report ID.
Note
The report is added to the Report Center by the report initialisation (action Initialize Reports, available in vendor mode). Environments that were initialised before this report was released show it in the Report Center after the next report initialisation; searching for the report works regardless.
Options
Before the export starts, the request page shows the group Options. The values you enter are remembered for the next run.
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
| From Date Formula | Date formula that calculates the first posting date to include, relative to the work date. For example -1D exports everything from yesterday onwards and -1W everything from one week ago. Leave the field empty to start at the work date. There is no end date: all entries from the calculated date up to and including the most recent posting are exported. |
| Customer Filter | Mandatory. Filter on the customer number of the entries, for example 435 for one customer or 435\|500 for two customers. Enter * to include all customers. Running the report with an empty customer filter is stopped with the message Please specify a customer filter. |
| Reason Code Filter | Optional filter on the reason code of the entries, for example <>CO to leave out all entries with reason code CO. |
Tip
To send a customer a daily mutation overview, run the report every morning with From Date Formula -1D and the customer's number in Customer Filter.
What is exported
Business Central offers the result as an Excel download. Each row is one item ledger entry, so a mutation that touches several handling units or several locations results in several rows. Rows are sorted by posting date, then document number, then handling unit number.
Relocations of handling units (entries with source entry type Carrier Transfer, where a handling unit only moves to another location) are not exported. All other entry types are included, such as receipts, shipments, transfers, physical inventory postings and changes made through the WMS journals.
The export contains the fields of the item ledger entry, grouped here for readability:
| Group | Columns (summary) |
|---|---|
| Posting and document | Posting Date, Source Entry Type, Source Code, Reason Code, Document Type, Document No., Document Line No., Document Date, Initial Document Type and No., User ID, Created Date/Time, System-Created Entry. |
| Customer and item | Source No. (the customer), the sell-to customer name of the document, Customer Item No., External Customer Item No., Description, Item No., Item Category Code, Product Group Code, Invoice Type Code, Storage Charge No., Partner Code. |
| Handling unit and batch | Handling unit number, external handling unit number, receipt handling unit number, handling unit type, Batch No., External Batch No., Expiration Date, Freezing Date, Production Date, Production Time, Production Code, Production Period, Item Condition, Feature Recognition, Attribute 01 to Attribute 10. |
| Quantities and dimensions | Handling unit quantity, Quantity (Base) with base unit of measure, Quantity with unit of measure, Qty. per Unit of Measure, quantity per handling unit, Net Weight, Gross Weight, Length, Width, Height, Cubage. |
| Location | Building Code, Location No., Zone Code, Zone Type, Location Type Code, Loc. Invoice Class Code, Cross-docking, Entrepot Storage. |
| Customs and origin | Customs Code, Customs Value, Customs Value per, Customs Currency Code, Tariff No., Taric Code, Alcohol By Volume, Country of Origin Code, Country Purchased Code, Container No., Vessel No., Receipt Date. |
| Address | No., Name, Address, Post Code and City of the address that belongs to the mutation (see below). |
| Activity and dimensions | Activity Group Code, Activity Type Code, Action Code, Global Dimension 1 Code, Global Dimension 2 Code. |
The address columns are taken from the WMS document of the entry, so the export shows who delivered or received the goods: for a receipt the sender address of the document, for a shipment the ship-to address. Both open and posted documents are looked up. When the entry does not belong to a receipt or shipment document, the address number stored on the entry itself is used. The sell-to customer name is also taken from the document.
Known limitations
- The attribute columns are always Attribute 01 to Attribute 10. The captions you configured for item ledger entry attributes are not used as column headers.
- Besides the single address block described above, the export has no separate ship-to or consignee address columns.
- Entry No., Related Entry No., Entry Type and Modified Date/Time are not exported.
TODO(verify): Do the column headers in the downloaded Excel file show the readable field captions, or the technical column names (for example
Qty_per_Unit_of_Measure)? The report layout was generated by the compiler and could not be checked.
