Customer item

A customer item is the product of a customer. In 3PL Dynamics Transportation, you use customer items on transport document lines and link them to goods, so the goods you transport are registered with the right quantity.

Customer items are master data that is shared with warehousing. The article about the customer item in the warehouse module describes the card, units of measure, conditions and other related setup. For the full description, see Customer item (WMS).

Open a customer item

  1. Choose the Lightbulb that opens the Tell Me feature. icon, enter Customer Item List, and then choose the related link.
  2. Open a customer item to see the Customer Item card.

Link a customer item to one or more goods when a customer item on a transport document must result in goods lines. The link is set per unit of measure of the customer item.

  1. Open the customer item and choose Units of Measure.
  2. Select the unit of measure that you want to link, and then choose Good Link.
  3. On the Good Links page, add a line for each good.
  4. Fill in Qty. per Unit of measure and Good Unit of Measure. Both are required when goods lines are created for a document line.

When goods are added to a transport document, the quantity of each goods line is the customer item quantity divided by Qty. per Unit of measure. If the unit of measure of the customer item has a rounding precision, the result is rounded accordingly.

For example, if a customer item line has a quantity of 100 and the link says that 20 pieces make one unit of the good, the goods line gets a quantity of 5.

How goods lines are created

On a document, the goods are created from the lines that contain a customer item and have a quantity other than zero.

  • For each such line, the links of the customer item and the unit of measure on the line are used to create goods lines.
  • When goods are grouped for a document, lines for the same good and unit of measure are combined into one goods line. Quantity and gross, net and tare weight are summed. Goods lines that the system created earlier are removed first and then created again.
  • A line that already has goods attached to it isn't processed again.

Copy a customer item

Integrations

Customer items are available as read-only data in the transportation API under the customerItem entity, for integrations that need customer item master data.
