Visual Planning Sorting Template
A Sorting Template defines the sort order applied to the Unplanned Sections list on the Visual Planning screen — for example, by loading date and then by postal code. Use sorting templates so planners can quickly switch to the sort order that fits the work at hand, without losing any filter that's already applied.
Overview
Sorting Templates help you:
- Present unplanned sections in the order that's most useful for a specific planning task
- Let a planner switch sort order on the fly, while keeping their active filters
- Set a default sort order per user
Set up a sorting template
- Choose the
icon, enter Visual Planning Sorting Template List, and then choose the related link. - Choose New to create a template.
- Fill in the fields as necessary. The following table describes key fields.

| Code | A unique identifier for the sorting template. |
| Description | A descriptive name for the sorting template. |
| Ascending | Whether all the sorting fields below are applied in ascending (on) or descending (off) order. |
| Sorting Field 1 … Sorting Field 10 | Up to 10 fields from the transport order, applied in this order to sort the Unplanned Sections list. Choose the field to look up a valid field. |
| View | A read-only preview of the resulting sort order, built automatically from the sorting fields above. |
Assign a default sorting template
Select a default Sorting Template per user in Visual Planning - User Setup, field Unplanned Section Sorting.
Change the sorting template while planning
A planner can switch to a different Sorting Template at any moment from Visual Planning, without losing the current filter:
- On the Unplanned Sections window, choose the action Change Unplanned Section Sorting (shortcut: Alt+S).
- Select the Sorting Template to apply.
Tip
Only the sort order changes — any filter that's already applied to the Unplanned Sections window stays in place.
