Warehouse Proposal Journal

The Warehouse Proposal Journal is the worksheet in which 3PL Dynamics collects proposed warehouse movements before they are turned into transfer documents and warehouse activities. Most lines arrive here automatically from the Allocation System, but you can also fill the journal yourself for internal movements, for example to move a group of Handling Units to another location or zone.

Note

The site uses the term Handling Unit for what the request page and some captions still call Carrier. The filter tab Carrier and the field Carrier No. refer to the Handling Unit.

Transfer Suggestion

Use Functions > Transfer Suggestion to create journal lines for existing inventory. The function reads the Handling Unit Content that matches your filters and creates one accepted journal line per Handling Unit content line with a quantity. The lines get the warehouse action you select, so that Process > Create can turn them into a transfer document straight away.

Filters

On the Carrier tab you filter the Handling Unit Content that must be moved. The default filter fields are Carrier No., External Carrier No., Customer Item No., Location No., Zone Code, Batch No., External Batch No. and Item Condition. Use Zone Code to move everything in one zone at once, for example to empty a zone before maintenance.

Options

Option Meaning
To location The location the Handling Units must be moved to. Leave it empty when the target is not yet known or differs per line.
Posting Date Mandatory. Defaults to the work date.
Document No. Mandatory. Filled from the number series of the journal batch when the batch has one.
Warehouse Action Code Mandatory. The warehouse action that is assigned to every created line; it determines how the movement is executed. See Warehouse Actions.
Warehouse Strategy Code Optional. The Warehouse Strategy that is copied to every created line. Leave it empty when no strategy must be applied.

How Warehouse Strategy Code is filled

The field Warehouse Strategy Code on the created journal line is a direct copy of the option Warehouse Strategy Code on the request page:

  • Warehouse Strategy Code is filled: every created line gets that warehouse strategy. The code must exist in the Warehouse Strategy List.
  • Warehouse Strategy Code is empty: Warehouse Strategy Code on the created line stays empty.

The field is also shown as a column on the Warehouse Proposal Journal, so you can check or change the strategy per line before you process the lines. Because the request page remembers its last values, check the option before every run: a strategy entered in a previous run is proposed again.

When warehouse activities are created from the journal lines (Process > Create Whse. Activities), a filled Warehouse Strategy Code on the journal line is copied to the Warehouse Strategy Code of every created warehouse activity. The Warehouse Strategy then calculates the proposed location for the activity in the usual way. When the field on the journal line is empty, the warehouse activities are created exactly as before and receive no strategy from the journal line.

How Location to is filled

The field Location to on the created journal line depends only on the option To location on the request page:

  • To location is filled: every created line gets that location as Location to, including the matching Building to and Zone code to.
  • To location is empty: Location to, Building to and Zone code to on the created line stay empty. You can fill them in per line afterwards, or apply a location or transfer strategy.
Note

Previously a line created without a To location could still receive the default location of the customer item as Location to, because that default is applied whenever a Handling Unit is entered on a journal line. The Transfer Suggestion function now clears it again, so an empty option on the request page always results in an empty Location to. Entering a Handling Unit manually on a journal line still proposes the default location of the customer item.

When you create the transfer document with Process > Create from a line that still has an empty Location to, the transfer line receives the default location of the customer item, or the current location of the Handling Unit when the customer item has no default location. Fill in Location to on the journal line before you create the transfer when the goods must go to a specific location.

Tip

The options New location is picklocation and New Carrier from new Location that were shown on the request page in earlier versions had no effect in this function and have been removed. The same options on Transfer Suggestion of the Item Transfer Journal are not affected.
