Introduction
Benefit from the latest technologies. Support your processes with the newest functionalities. And never experience the burdens of an outdated software system. These are just a hand full of the advantages that you as a customer of Boltrics can benefit from. Thanks to the always up-to-date promise. Every day, our colleagues work hard to optimize the 3PL Dynamics application. And our IT Operations team works hard to prepare your systems for the next update.
Starting with the Basics
Boltrics builds its solution on top of Microsoft’s base application. Microsoft provides the core platform and business functionality through Business Central, while Boltrics adds the 3PL Logistiscs solution. Both Microsoft and Boltrics continuously monitor and update the platform. Updates are released in waves, consisting of major and minor versions. Most new features are introduced in major updates, while critical fixes or enhancements may also appear in minor ones. Urgent hotfixes are deployed as soon as they are tested and validated in a staging environment.
Release management
Release management refers to the coordinated process of deploying new software versions, which can include Microsoft updates, hotfixes, or changes from Boltrics. With a structured release cycle, customers can prepare in advance and standardize internal tasks. This promotes operational stability and sets clear expectations.
Boltrics commits to keeping all customers up to date within 8 weeks after each update cycle. This consistency ensures all environments run on the same version, allowing us to focus on continuous improvement. Regular updates also keep changes small and manageable, making it easier to understand and troubleshoot if any issues arise.
Hotfixes Outside the Regular Update Cycle
Microsoft occasionally delivers critical hotfixes outside of your chosen update window. These are typically related to platform stability, performance, or urgent security risks. In such cases, Microsoft is permitted to override the time window to ensure system health.
If Boltrics needs to release a hotfix independently of the regular update cycle, we will announce this on status.boltrics.com. In exceptional cases where immediate action is needed, we may deploy the fix before notifying customers although this is extremely rare.
What to Expect During an Update
Whether you're a new or existing customer, being prepared for an update helps reduce stress when it goes live in production. Before the update process begins, ensure the correct contacts are assigned in your environment. These individuals, known as “update contacts,” will receive all related communication.
- If you're directly supported by Boltrics, you can add update contacts via the Boltrics contact list in your environment.
- If you're working with a partner (reseller), inform them so they can register the appropriate update contact(s).

The Update Process: Step-by-Step
The update process is straightforward:
- New customers go live on the latest available version.
- After going live, the first update will be scheduled within a few months.
- From that point on, updates are offered every 4 weeks.
- You can reschedule each update within a window of 2 to 8 weeks.
- If no action is taken, the update will proceed after 4 weeks automatically.
Detailed guidelines on managing your update schedule can be found here: New BC Update.
Testing the Upcoming Update
Testing is a critical step in preparing for any update. Seven days before the update is applied to your production environment, the updated solution will be available in your test environment. You will receive an email with the correct URL.
Use this window to verify that your core processes continue to function as expected. Focus on testing key workflows and integrations that are essential to your daily operations.
Even though many customers test the same update, your specific workflows, configurations, or customizations may behave differently. If you use a customization app, it’s especially important to test it yourself, other customers won’t validate that code, making undetected issues more likely. Skipping testing is at your own risk. That said, if problems do arise after the update, we will of course assist you as quickly as possible.
Customization apps (custom code) are only updated on customer request, as they are site-specific. During major Microsoft updates, Boltrics will proactively update the customization app to ensure compatibility. No action is needed on your part but we strongly recommend testing your customization app with each update cycle to avoid disruptions.
Tip
Involve key users from different departments to ensure comprehensive testing coverage. Document any issues and report them promptly to Boltrics or your partner, so they can be addressed before the production rollout.
