Driving and Resting Time Law
The Driving and Resting Time Law functionality helps you keep trip planning compliant with driving and rest time regulations — commonly known as the EU 561/2006 "rij- en rusttijden" rules. When a planned trip would exceed a configured driving or work-time limit, the system automatically inserts a rest activity into the trip, instead of only flagging a violation afterwards.
Overview
Driving and Resting Time Law helps you:
- Automatically insert a rest stop into a trip once a driving or work-time limit is reached
- Configure separate limits for a single driver and for multiple drivers on the same trip
- Apply different limits per trip calculation type, or to a specific set of trips using a table filter
- Exclude specific activity types from counting toward the driving/resting time calculation
Set up a resting law profile
- Choose the
icon, enter Resting Law Setup List, and then choose the related link. - Choose New to create a profile.
- Fill in the fields as necessary. The following table describes key fields.

| Table filter | An optional filter on the trip. Use this to apply different limits to different plan departments, vehicle types, or other trip criteria. |
Note
If more than one profile matches a trip, the first one found is used. Make sure your table filters don't overlap between profiles for the same Trip Calculation Type.
Configure driving law limits
Under Driving Law Setup, enable Driving Law Enabled and fill in the limits for Single Driver and Multi Driver trips separately — a trip with two or more driver resources uses the Multi Driver limits.

Configure resting law limits
Under Resting Law Setup, enable Resting Law Enabled and set a Work Starting Activity Code — the activity from which cumulative work time starts counting. If left empty, the first activity of type Start Trip on the trip is used. Fill in the limits for Single Driver and Multi Driver trips separately.

Note
Resting Law only counts work time — any activity that isn't itself a rest activity — not just driving time. Driving Law only counts time on Drive-type activities.
Exclude activities from the calculation
By default, every activity except Drive counts toward the Resting Law's work-time counters. To exclude a specific activity type (for example an administrative or waiting activity) from counting as work:
- Choose the icon, enter Activity List, and then choose the related link.
- On the activity you want to exclude, turn on Rest Activity for Law.
Important
Activities of type Rest always have Rest Activity for Law turned on and can't be changed — a rest activity can't be excluded from counting as rest.
