Activity Performance Operation Type

Activity Performance Operation Types categorize different types of warehouse operations for performance tracking and analysis. Use operation types to classify activities beyond standard activity types, enabling detailed performance measurement and reporting.

Overview

Operation Types help you:

  • Classify warehouse operations at a granular level
  • Analyze performance by operation type
  • Group related operation types for higher-level reporting
  • Track and measure specific operational processes

Set up operation types

  1. Choose the Lightbulb that opens the Tell Me feature. icon, enter Activity Performance Operation Type List, and then choose the related link.
  2. Fill in the fields as necessary. The following table describes key fields.
Field Description
Code A unique identifier for the operation type (max 20 characters).
Description A descriptive name for the operation type (max 100 characters).
Operation Group Code Link to an Operation Group for higher-level categorization.

Example operation types

You can define operation types based on your warehouse processes:

Inbound Operations

  • UNLOAD - Unloading goods from trucks
  • RECEIVE - Receiving and checking goods
  • PUTAWAY - Storing goods in warehouse locations
  • CROSSDOCK - Cross-docking operations

Outbound Operations

  • PICK - Picking goods from locations
  • PACK - Packing orders
  • STAGE - Staging orders for shipment
  • LOAD - Loading trucks for shipment

Internal Operations

  • REPLEN - Replenishment activities
  • MOVE - Internal location movements
  • COUNT - Cycle counting activities
  • SORT - Sorting operations

Value-Added Services

  • LABEL - Labeling operations
  • KIT - Kitting or assembly
  • REWORK - Rework or repackaging
  • QC - Quality control checks
Tip

Define operation types at a meaningful level of detail. Too many types can complicate reporting, while too few might not provide enough insight.

Assign operation types

You assign operation types to performance entries during warehouse operations:

  • When registering performance entries through scan functions
  • When recording manual tasks and operations
  • When performing activities based on document lines

When you specify an operation type, it's recorded in the Activity Performance Entry and enables filtering and analysis by operation type.

Use operation types in scan functions

Operation Types integrate with the following scan functions:

  • Function 17 (Register Performance Entry): Parameter 7 - OPERATION TYPE
  • Function 35 (Register Performance Entry Document Line): Parameter 13 - OPERATION TYPE
  • Function 36 (Register Performance Entry Manual Task): Parameter 31 - OPERATION TYPE

Group operation types

Link operation types to Operation Groups for higher-level categorization. For example:

  • INBOUND - UNLOAD, RECEIVE, PUTAWAY, CROSSDOCK
  • OUTBOUND - PICK, PACK, STAGE, LOAD
  • INTERNAL - REPLEN, MOVE, COUNT, SORT

Grouping helps simplify reporting and create hierarchical views of operational performance.

Analyze performance by operation type

Use operation types to:

  • Measure time and resources per operation type
  • Identify operations taking longer than expected
  • Analyze staffing needs by operation type
  • Track performance trends over time
  • Compare performance across different operation types
