Warehouse Equipment

Warehouse Equipment records represent individual pieces of material handling equipment used in warehouse operations, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, reach trucks, and scanning devices. Use equipment records to track equipment usage, monitor performance, and assign equipment to warehouse employees.

Overview

Warehouse Equipment helps you:

  • Maintain a register of all warehouse equipment
  • Track equipment using unique IDs (serial numbers, asset tags)
  • Monitor equipment usage and activity performance
  • Link equipment to scan employees for operational tracking
  • Block unavailable equipment from use

Set up warehouse equipment

Before you create equipment records, configure the number series in WMS Setup to automatically generate equipment numbers.

  1. Choose the Lightbulb that opens the Tell Me feature. icon, enter Equipment List, and then choose the related link.
  2. Choose New to open the Equipment Card.
  3. Fill in the fields as necessary. The following table describes key fields.
Field Description
No. Unique equipment number. Auto-generated based on the number series configured in WMS Setup. Choose the AssistEdit button to select from available number series.
Description Descriptive name for the equipment (max 100 characters).
Equipment Type Code Link to Equipment Type for categorization.
Equipment ID Unique identification code such as a serial number or asset tag (max 30 characters). This is used for scanning and must be unique across all equipment.
Blocked Specifies whether the equipment is blocked from being used in warehouse operations. Blocked equipment can't be set as active equipment for scan employees.
No. Series The number series used to generate the equipment number (read-only).

Set equipment as active

You can set equipment as active for warehouse operations in the following ways:

Default equipment assignment

Set default equipment on the Scan Employee card. The equipment automatically becomes active when the employee logs into the scanning application.

Scan equipment during operations

Use the scan function to set active equipment:

  1. Scan the Equipment ID during warehouse operations.
  2. The system validates that the equipment exists and isn't blocked.
  3. The equipment becomes associated with subsequent performance entries.
Note

When equipment is active during warehouse operations, the system automatically records which equipment was used for each activity. Performance entries include the equipment number, enabling analysis of equipment efficiency and utilization.

Block equipment

You can block equipment to temporarily or permanently disable it from use:

  1. Open the Equipment Card.
  2. Turn on the Blocked toggle.
Important

Blocked equipment can't be set as active equipment and prevents accidental use of unavailable equipment. The equipment record is maintained for historical tracking.

Equipment ID validation

The Equipment ID must be unique across all equipment. When you enter or modify an Equipment ID, the system validates uniqueness. If the ID is already in use by another equipment record, you'll see an error message.

Integration with other features

Scan employees

Link equipment to Warehouse Employees by setting the Default Equipment No. field on the Warehouse Employee card. The equipment automatically becomes active when the employee logs in, simplifying operations and ensuring consistent equipment tracking.

Activity performance

Equipment is automatically tracked in Activity Performance Entries. Each performance entry includes the active equipment number, enabling performance analysis by equipment and reporting on utilization and efficiency.

Scanning framework

Equipment integrates with the scanning framework through scan functions. The Set Active Equipment No. scan function (Function 18) enables dynamic equipment selection. Equipment tracking works across all warehouse activity types.

Analyze equipment data

Use tracked equipment data to:

  • Analyze how frequently equipment is used
  • Compare performance across different equipment types
  • Identify heavily used equipment requiring maintenance
  • Optimize equipment allocation based on usage patterns
