Warehouse Activity

Warehouse activities are tasks to be performed in the warehouse. These can be a variety of tasks. For example:

Prioritise activities from full locations

When a location such as a pick-drop location in a narrow aisle fills up, the reach trucks that depend on it get stuck. The job queue function UPDATE ACT. PRIORITY automatically gives the warehouse activities that move carriers away from a full from-location a different priority, so those activities are handled first.

  1. Create a job queue entry that runs a function set (see Job Queue). In the Function Set field, use the assist edit to select UPDATE ACT. PRIORITY from WMS Job Queue Functions WMS.
  2. Fill the parameters: a filter on the warehouse activities (for example a building, zone or activity group), the fill percentage of the from-location from which the priority changes, and the new priority.
  3. Schedule the entry. Each run checks, per from-location within the filter, whether the number of carriers on the location has reached the percentage of Maximum No. of Carriers on the Location Card, and if so sets the priority of the activities from that location.

See WMS Job Queue Functions for the parameters and details.

Prioritise replenishment activities by pick-location stock

Replenishment activities move stock to a pick location before it runs out, but picking continues while they wait. The job queue function REPLENISHMT PRIORITY periodically recalculates the Priority, and optionally the Sorting Order, of the open replenishment activities from the actual situation: how much stock the pick location still has, and how much is already on its way on transfer documents per status. A pick location that is already empty can get a higher priority than one that is only below its minimum, and stock that is already being moved can rank above stock that is only planned.

  1. Create a job queue entry that runs a function set (see Job Queue). In the Function Set field, use the assist edit to select REPLENISHMT PRIORITY from WMS Job Queue Functions WMS.
  2. Fill the parameters: a filter on the warehouse activities (for example the replenishment Action Code and an empty Assigned User ID), the transfer document statuses that count as in progress, released and created, and a priority for each of the six situations (pick location empty or below minimum, combined with the three status groups). Set SETSORTINGBYQUANTITY to Yes when the sorting order should follow the missing quantity as well.
  3. Schedule the entry. Each run compares, per activity, the Inventory of the customer item on the pick location (see Pick Locations) with its Minimum Inventory, looks up the open transfer quantity of the item per status group, and sets the priority of the first matching situation. Activities whose pick location is neither empty nor below its minimum are left as they are.

See WMS Job Queue Functions for the parameters and the exact rules.

Offer activities by zone priority and equipment reach

The order in which open warehouse activities are offered to an operator in the scanning application is determined by the Activity Manager. Its lines can be restricted to a From Zone Code, so that for example the replenishment activities of an operator's primary zone are offered before those of a failover zone, and each scan employee can have their own Activity Manager. Activities whose from or to location lies higher than the Max. Reach Height of the operator's active equipment type are skipped. See Activity Manager for the setup and a worked example.
