Create empty trips - Code: CREATE EMPTY TRIP

Use the CREATE EMPTY TRIP function to create trips automatically, without any orders or sections. For example, schedule it daily with the job queue so that planners always find ready-made trips in Visual Planning to plan unplanned sections on.

The function belongs to the TMS Trip Functions function set library. Each trip that the function creates gets the planned times, addresses, plan box, and resources that you configure. No TMS orders or sections are created.

Set up the function

  1. Choose the Lightbulb that opens the Tell Me feature. icon, enter Function Set Entries, and then choose the related link.
  2. Create a function set entry, and select the function CREATE EMPTY TRIP.
  3. Add the parameters you need. The following table describes them. All parameters are optional.
Name Value Description
NO OF TRIPS Whole number. Default: 1. Number of trips created each time the function runs. A value of 0 or less creates one trip.
PLANNEDSTARTINGDATE Date. Planned starting date. When empty, the work date is used.
PLANNEDSTARTINGTIME Time. Planned starting time. When empty, the default trip starting time from Transport Setup is used.
PLANNEDENDINGDATE Date. Planned ending date.
PLANNEDENDINGTIME Time. Planned ending time.
ORDERTYPECODE An order type code. Order type of the trip.
FROMADDRESSNO An address number. From address of the trip.
TOADDRESSNO An address number. To address of the trip.
PLANDEPARTMENT A plan department code. Plan department of the trip.
PLANBOX A plan box number. Plan box of the trip.
RESOURCE01 to RESOURCE08 A resource number. Resources 1 to 8 of the trip.

Only the parameters that you fill in are applied to the trip. Values are validated the same way as when you enter them on the trip, so an invalid value produces an error.

Note

When you leave the planned starting time empty, the trip gets the default starting time from Transport Setup. If that setup is also empty, the trip starts at 06:00.

Run the function automatically

To create the trips on a schedule, run the function set from a job queue entry.

  1. Choose the Lightbulb that opens the Tell Me feature. icon, enter Job Queue Entries, and then choose the related link.
  2. Choose New to create an entry.
  3. Set the 3PL job queue task to 3PL Function Set Run, and enter the ID of your function set entry in the parameter string. The description of the job queue entry is then filled with the description of the function set entry.
  4. Set the recurrence, for example every morning, and then set the entry to Ready.

To prepare different kinds of empty trips, for example per plan box, plan department, or resource combination, create a separate function set entry and job queue entry for each kind.

Plan on the new trips

The created trips are regular trips. Open Visual Planning to add unplanned sections to them. Creating trips through statuses, scanning, or the user interface works as before.
