Plan sections on trips
Use the planning screens to plan released sections on trips. You work in two pages side by side: the Section Planbox, which lists the sections that are waiting to be planned, and the Trip Planning Screen, which lists the trips that are in planning or in progress.
Which sections and trips you see depends on the plan department. The plan department type Planning opens both pages together. The Trip Table Filter and Section Table Filter of the plan department limit the trips and the sections that appear.
Note
Don't confuse these pages with the Crossdock Screen, which lists the trips that load or unload at the crossdock address.
Prerequisites
- The order is released, so its sections have the status 20-RELEASED. For more information, see Status templates for transportation.
- The sections have a plan department and, if you use them, a plan box.
- A plan department of type Planning is set up. You can add it to My Plan Departments on the role center.
Plan sections on a new trip
- Open the plan department from My Plan Departments on the role center. The Section Planbox opens.
- Select one or more sections and choose Select for Planning. Your user ID appears in the Plan-Id column, and the totals of the selection appear at the bottom of the page. Use the totals and restrictions to check whether the selection fits on a vehicle.
- Choose Combine Plan Selection into Trip. TMS creates a new trip for the selected sections.
Plan sections on an existing trip
- In the Section Planbox, select the sections and choose Select for Planning.
- In the Trip Planning Screen, select the trip and choose Select for Planning.
- Choose Add Plan Selection to Trip. TMS plans the sections on the selected trip. If you set up trip section plan rules, TMS performs these checks automatically.
When you plan sections, TMS uses the Activity Calculation Type of the trip's plan department, or the Default Activity Calculation in Transport Setup if the trip has no plan department:
- Default: TMS calculates the activities, distances, and planned times of the trip right after it plans the sections.
- Another type: TMS doesn't always calculate the trip right away. If the activities aren't up to date, calculate the trip yourself. For more information, see Trip.
Settings
- Set up the type and the filters of the planning screens in Plan departments.
- Add the plan department to My Plan Departments on the role center for quick access.
